Members sitting on Southampton City Council’s Planning and Rights of Way panel on Tuesday (Dec 14) voted in line with the planning officer’s recommendation, to conditionally approve the planning application to install “a shipping container to accommodate hot food takeaway with associated stepped access from Whitworth Crescent”.
Conditions included restricting hours, reviewing external lighting, forbidding amplified music, and restricting goods sold to pizzas “and associated goods”.
As we noted previously, there had been various objections from local residents, over concerns including parking, the appearance of the container and its positioning, the possible impact of delivery services, anti-social behaviour and the number of takeaways in the area. Officers had responded to objections in their report to the panel.
Although none of the objectors had applied to speak at the meeting, Bitterne Park ward councillor David Fuller said: “Several of our residents have objected on the back of this and I would just like their views to be taken into consideration in your deliberations over this particular item.”
Speaking in favour of the application, Mr Landa said: “What we’re bringing to Bitterne Park is a very unique pizza concept.”
He said that the plan was to make sure the business is as “eco friendly as possible even with our packaging”, and that produce would be sourced locally as much as possible.
“Our ethos is to stay local and to serve the Bitterne Park community,” he added.
Planning panel members voted unanimously to conditionally approve the scheme.
