Survey on setting up city Climate Commission

It says on its survey page:

“There are challenges ahead to meet climate change targets and although action at a national level is vital we also need to take action at the local level. There is a lot more work needed to effectively reduce emissions which needs to be done collectively and impartially.

“The UK Government has set a legally binding target to be net zero carbon (at least 100% reduction) by 2050 and an interim target to reduce emissions by 78% by 2035. As a city Southampton must reduce its carbon emissions by 62% by 2025 to keep on track with national targets.

“We are proposing that an independent forum, or Climate Commission, could help achieve these goals. It is a model other UK cities have introduced, bringing together representation from a range of stakeholders to develop ownership and oversight and establish agreed targets and positive action. A Commission would help build capacity in the city to address the challenges of climate change and provide a platform for deliberation and democracy.”
