Court date secured for encampment hearing

The council will be in court next Monday morning (July 17) seeking an order to evict those at the unauthorised encampment on the former pitch and putt golf course at Riverside Park.

While similar moves can take only five or six days working days, it’s understood there’s been a delay both with securing deeds for the site, and a court date, both of which have been blamed on staffing levels.

“There was a hold up but due to the intervention of local councillors and officers … this has now been brought forward to next Monday,” said Bitterne Park councillor Tony Bunday (Lab). He said he had been one of several people who had been very proactive in trying to move the situation on.

It’s understood that if an order to evict is granted, those at the site, which was set up at the end of last month, will have 24 hours to quit the area, or the eviction would be enforced.
