Plans are in the pipeline but as yet there’s no firm timetable or budget for a revamp at the playground near Woodmill car park, sometimes known as 'The Wooden Playground'.

The Wooden Playground, which has been a firm favourite over the years with hundreds of children, has had most of its timber equipment removed because it reached the end of its usable life, and some was unsafe.
Obscene graffiti was also becoming a problem.
A spokesperson for Southampton City Council told bitternepark.info: “We are working on plans to refurbish Woodmill Play Area using timber play equipment to maintain the play area’s natural theme. Once plans are complete then budget will need to be secured before we can deliver refurbishment work.”

It’s thought the last major refurbishment was in 2011, when – as reported - TV personality and Bitterne Park’s famous son Chris Packham opened the new facilities surrounded by smiling children and their parents.
