Businesses on Cobden Avenue have been left to pick up the pieces after a car reportedly smashed into them in the early hours of Thursday (May 16).

Ceylon Junction, which originally opened in July 2022, was largely boarded up by the afternoon, and shuttering appeared significantly damaged on Diamond Pizza & Kebab next door.
Police said they were called at 3.21am to a report that a "car had collided with a shopfront".
A spokesperson said: "Officers attended and found a damaged vehicle, however it appeared that the driver had left the scene. Following further enquiries a 24-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage, failing to stop after an accident and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He has since been released under investigation."

As reported, just a short walk away Jupider convenience store on the corner of Bond and St Catherine's roads suffered damage in a suspected 'ram raid' in January, and has remained boarded - and tagged - since shortly after that incident.
