SCC adds that two million rides in Southampton save the carbon equivalent of 51 million smart phone charges
The rental e-scooters have been operating in the city since March 2021, with just over 90,000 people signed up to ride them.
The use of e-scooters instead of cars in Southampton has saved the city from more than 420 tonnes of harmful carbon dioxide emissions - the equivalent of over 51 million smart phone charges, according to an SCC press release.
The most recent rider survey in Southampton says 37% of riders used e-scooters for their commute to work or education, with 16% using them for errands and shopping.
Over a third of riders combined their scooter ride with a journey on public transport.
Some 40% of riders said they used an e-scooter to make a journey which was previously too long, too expensive or not accessible.
Voi has just started operating rental e-bikes in the city, as well as e-scooters, after Solent Transport awarded the company a contract to be sole operator in south Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
