The two 1,100-litre waste bins are positioned by the Voi scooter dock, in a spot recently considered for seating on the roof of the old public toilets - as previously reported.

It’s understood that there were also similar problems with the new bins earlier in the summer.
The Triangle has faced long-standing waste management challenges, particularly due to what’s described as “improper use of waste bins in the area” beneath residential flats, and lack of space for bins.
The communal bins were introduced as a result of a recent ‘rubbish review’, to try and overcome these issues, with the situation apparently being monitored over the next few months.

Bitterne Park councillor Phil Web (Lab) said: “The current visual state of the bins in the area is disappointing, and the issue has been reported.
“I’ve also requested additional units or more frequent collections to help resolve the problem, but this will all filter into a broader review of recent changes.”
Jo Williams from The Old Chemist, which is next door to the bins’ location, said: “We were initially pleased to see the waste bins arrive in the triangle, although they’re rather large and industrial for the area, as there is often an issue with litter on the ground.
“However it is now more of an issue having them as the overflowing waste left around the un-emptied bins attracts rodents and is not a welcoming look.”
