Updated: Work is set to start from Monday (Oct 7) for ten weeks on the Lodge Road and Bevois Valley junction.

It follows consultations with local residents for their views on safety improvements.
Work includes a “full intelligent traffic signal upgrade” including priority for buses. It will also feature push-button pedestrian crossings with countdown timers, dedicated cycle traffic signals, segregated cycle lanes on Bevois Hill, and upgraded footways.

Further enhancements include bus stop upgrades on Bevois Hill and the installation of cycle stands near Tesco Express on Lodge Road.
There will be lane restrictions and temporary lights as work takes place, with the Thomas Lewis spur road to the crossroads closed throughout, [see update below] but council contractor Balfour Beatty (BB) says traffic will be able to access Lodge Road and Portswood Road by using Bevois Hill.

The cycle lane between Lawn Road and the junction will be closed during the first part of the work.
Bus routes will also be affected so checking with operators is advised.
In the New Year, there will be further work on resurfacing and new drainage facilities.
As reported, the St Denys railway bridge repairs are also about to start - Friday, October 4.
Update 2/10/24 It's now been announced::
- The section of Bevois Hill between Lodge Road/Portswood Road and Thomas Lewis Way will now be closed, rather than one-way only, for approximately 3 weeks.
- The Closure on the Thomas Lewis Way Spur Road will not be in place, for approximately 3 weeks.
