Updated Repairs to the railway bridge remain on schedule, according to a local councillor, with two-way traffic expected to resume on St Denys Road at the Thomas Lewis Way junction from Monday, October 28.

Most readers will probably be aware that the route from Thomas Lewis Way through St Denys is currently closed to traffic while work takes place, with drivers having to divert to other bridges to cross the river.
Portswood councillor Katherine Barbour (Green) said that work is “on track” to reopen one lane westbound, presumably enabling the eastbound carriageway to also reopen.
This seems to be borne out by one.network which maps roadworks in cities.
However it's understood the remainder of the roadworks could take a further six to seven weeks.
Unexpected underground services and a structure linked to the old tram system were discovered beneath the road, adding to the complexity of the project, Barbour said.
Whether this means the westbound carriageway will still be restricted to one lane until the remaining works are complete is unclear.
Council contractor Balfour Beatty was contacted for further information but had not responded by the time of publication. The city’s project page is here and was last updated on October 14.
Update 25/10/24 The possibility of further delays have been floated following the discovery of further cabling. See our subsequent story here.
