Six arrested after gang fighting in Bitterne

A series of arrests recently took place across Southampton, following rising concerns over rival gangs fighting in Bitterne. Police have seized weapons, including knives and a cosh.

Six youths, aged between 15 and 19, were arrested for assault, violent disorder, and conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

In recent weeks significant resources, including targeted patrols, have been put in place to tackle the problem and help reassure the public.

Chief Inspector Lucy Hutson said:

“To find these weapons is quite disturbing, and we’re urging parents to help us put an end to gang fighting around the area by being aware of what their children are doing, and where they are. It’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured, or even killed.

“This operation has been a success — by targeting those involved and disrupting their activities, we’re sending a clear message that this behaviour won’t be tolerated."
