Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault near Woodmill Bridge earlier this month.
At around 7.20pm, on Saturday July 1, a 26-year-old Polish man was
attacked by two men as he walked along a footpath next to the River
Itchen, near to the bridge. The victim tried to flee from the men
by jumping into the river, but was followed by one of the men, who
continued to assault him. The offenders made off from the scene shortly
afterwards.
The 26-year-old man sustained head injuries during the assault, and was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.
Police are appealing for witnesses to what they describe as the unprovoked, isolated attack,
and are keen to hear from anyone who can help them with their
enquiries. Anyone with information about the incident, or who could
help police trace the offenders is asked to contact
DC 23877 Scott Spafford at Bitterne CID
on 0845 045 45 45.
