Audio: Co-working project at Old Chemist

old chemist thumbUpdated with audio A pilot project at The Old Chemist offers social entrepreneurs, homeworkers, freelancers and other business people the chance to get out of their home offices and spend a little time working in the company of others.


Not for profit company Shedlight promises “Good will, good vibes & good business at Old Chemist” from Friday, April 11, and lets people working in different areas spend some or all of a day in a shared workspace.

“They bring their own laptop, resources and materials and get on with their own work.  But as you might expect, people talk and inspiration follows,” explains the booking page.

old chemist bigOrganiser Conroy Williams says both ‘traditional’ business people and social entrepreneurs will be able to benefit, but that ultimately it’s all about collaboration and sharing ideas:

“There will be a core of people who will be social entrepreneurs setting out different projects, and it’s also a chance for home workers and business people to come and sit there too. I think they will appreciate each other’s perspective.”

The event uses the 'Jelly' concept, which stresses that co-working means meeting up with like-minded people to work together in a different environment, and maybe come up with a new idea to collaborate on: "Jelly differs from networking in that the aim is not to find new clients or to sell yourself or your business".

The pilot runs at The Old Chemist, 16 Manor Farm Road
Southampton, SO18 1NP
on specified Fridays from 9am-4.30pm for around three months from April 11.
Places free. Free WiFi. Small charge for refreshments. Spaces limited, check dates and book via Eventbrite.
