A critically acclaimed adaptation of George Orwell’s dystopian masterpiece 1984 comes to Nuffield Theatre from October 7-11.
On its second UK tour, this production of George Orwell’s novel, which was nominated for an Olivier award, continues to play to sold-out audiences across Britain.
Although published in 1949,Orwell’s 1984 is one of the most influential novels in recent history. Its chilling depiction of continual war, pervasive government surveillance and incessant public mind control has, some have claimed, become a reality.
Filtering the spirit and the ambition of the novel through the lens of contemporary culture, this radical production explores surveillance culture, identity, and how thinking you can fly might actually be the first step to flying.
The play is a co-production between Headlong, Nottingham Playhouse and the Almeida Theatre, and is being shown at the Nuffield as part of its visiting company season.
