The council says proposed 1016/17 savings “are required due to a reduction in the council’s government grant of £12.2 million in 2016/2017 (we have seen a 30% reduction in grants since 2012/2013, with more to come) and a significant increase in demand for our services in adults and children’s social care of £9 million.”

It says while these cuts are undesirable, it gives an opportunity to look closely at how the council operates.
