View displays and artefacts from bygone Bitterne

bitterne local history society logoView displays and artefacts from bygone Bitterne on Saturday (Sept 10), as Bitterne Local History Society takes part in this year’s Heritage Open Days, with a theme of ‘Crossing the Itchen’.

There will be images of bridges from the past, including the floating bridge. According to Discover Southampton, displays will also “evoke memories of an era before the bypass was constructed”, and displays will show shops from the past which will “educate the young and bring back memories to those who are a bit older.”

There will also be vintage bus trips from the Heritage Centre in Peartree Avenue across the river into Southampton city centre – more details of buses here [Link now actually included!]
