A series of workshops to encourage the over-50s to take advantage of the internet are being run in Southampton as part of the nationwide Silver Surfers’ Week (September 10 to 14).
Although not in our immediate area, next week Southampton City Council’s Adult and Community Learning team is laying on four opportunities for the City’s older residents to try out the internet, with plenty of support for beginners.
The events will take place at:
RISE - 47 Irving Road, Maybush, Southampton SO16 4EG Monday 10 September from 2pm to 4pm
SITES - Neighbourhood Learning Centre, Northam Shopping Precinct, 62 Northam Road, Southampton SO14 0QF
Tuesday 11 September from 10am to 12 midday
RISE - 47 Irving Road, Maybush, Southampton SO16 4EG Wednesday 12 September from 10am to 12 midday
SITES - Neighbourhood Learning Centre, Harefield Shopping Precinct, 12 Exford Avenue, Harefield, Southampton SO18 5RZ Wednesday 12 September from 2pm to 4pm
Anyone over 50 is welcome to attend whatever their level of experience, and even if they have never touched a computer before. There will be a 15 to 30 minute ‘taster’ session on the basics of internet/email, a chance to ask questions about areas of particular interest and information about digital switch-over.
All the workshops are free and there’s no need to book. For more information contact Debbie Cotton in Adult and Community Learning on 023 8083 4208.
