TriFest – a cross between a ‘village show’ and a music festival with local bands performing to picnickers – successfully beat its £1,580 crowdfunding target, attracting £1,640 from 72 supporters.
TriFest will run from noon to 8pm on the 31st at the Bitterne Park Triangle end of Riverside Park.
“We are looking for local bands and musicians to play in our performance area, we will have amplification for voice and acoustic instruments. Please let us know if you are a local community organisation or charity who would like a pitch, local traders as well very welcome,” said one of the organising team Paul Jenks, above, who can be contacted on This email address is being protected from spambots. There will be food available, and people will also be encouraged to use Triangle shops and takeaways for picnic supplies.
A bar will be run by The Butcher’s Hook.
Watery pleasures for landlubbers and water rats!
St Denys Boat Club’s “musical and theatrical treasure trail” ‘All Aboard’, also takes place from Cobden Bridge to the blue rail bridge and beyond on the same day during high tide (approx 11.30am-2.30pm).
“Explore the water and water’s edge for 'happenings' musical, poetic, theatrical, colourful, unusual and unpredictable! There might even be a Troll!” suggests the Facebook event.
Some musicians are likely to play at both events, and there will also be a stage on the ‘swan jetty’ at Riverside Park.
Although there’s apparently a schedule for performers shaping up, for the audience it’s said largely to be a 'treasure trail' with a map, to go discover/find as much as possible, “so mostly [for] those with safe access to river transport”.
People are welcome to bring their own entertainment on the water or at the water's edge at any publicly accessible point, as latecomers may not easily get scheduled formally, with audiences accessing by any floating manner, and some of the stages being private moorings, balconies and boats.
Some performances are also said to be “likely” on land, for example on grassy park edges at Pettinger and Janaway gardens. Participation is by just turning up or posting interest on the Facebook event page.
• Saftey First: It’s been pointed out that although billed as a St Denys Boat Club event, and members of the public are welcome to join in with their own craft, only members can launch or land at the Boat Club, and “everyone afloat must be aware of common sense water safety measures such as wearing life-jackets, caution with wind, awareness of tides etc”.
