A man approached the girl while she walked along the river path heading towards Forest Hills Drive, off Woodmill Lane, at 7.30am on Tuesday 13 September.

The man grabbed her from behind and attempted to drag her away from the path. There was a commotion, and the girl screamed before fighting off the man. She ran off in the opposite direction, towards Mansbridge Road.

The man is described as:

  • White with suntanned skin
  • In his 50s
  • Big blue eyes
  • Skinny
  • Short, greying brown hair which is receding
  • Stubble
  • Beige shorts with large pockets on each side
  • Sleeveless Beige waistcoat, over a long-sleeved top
  • Carrying a blue rucksack with a black strip or seam

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the girl or heard a scream coming from the direction of the river path. They would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a man matching the above description acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Constable Susan Hampton at Bitterne CID on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
