2005 by-election: Tory wins

Clifford Combes, the Conservative Party candidate, has won the Bitterne Park Ward by-election, with the Labour candidate taking second place.

The election was caused by the resignation of former Councillor Nigel Impey (Liberal Democrat) who has moved home to another part of the UK.

Voting took place yesterday (Thursday, September 15) and the results were:

BRAINSBY, Michael Christopher The Labour Party Candidate 791 votes

COMBES, Clifford Alan The Conservative Party Candidate 984 votes

COX, Joseph William Green Party 89 votes

WORK, Anne Mary Patricia Liberal Democrats 785 votes


The turnout was: 25.8 per cent

It means the make-up of the city council is (former figures in brackets)

Conservative: (15) 16

Labour: (15) 15

Liberal Democrat: (18) 17
