Witness appeal after attempted rape in St Denys
Detectives from Southampton’s Major Crime Department are appealing for
witnesses after a man attempted to rape a woman in a house in St Denys.
The man got into a house in Adelaide Road shortly after 10pm on Thursday, December 15 where he tried to rape a middle aged woman who had been asleep at the time. The woman managed to fight him off.
Detective Inspector Nigel Nivan said: "It is believed the man was walking in Adelaide Road shortly before the incident around 10 pm. "We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was walking in the area at the time or any residents who had unexpected callers at their doors.
"This kind of incident is rare in Southampton but it is only common sense for anyone to make sure that when they are in their home they lock their doors so people can’t get in easily without them realising."
The attacker is described as:
White
25-35 years
5ft 9ins
Medium build
Short brownish hair
Pale complexion
He was wearing a navy blue hooded top with writing on the front and dark faded jeans.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the major incident room at Hulse Road on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
